The initiative was launched at GITEX Global 2023 in collaboration with the Abu Dhabi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ADCCI).
To maximise the benefits of data collaboration for both sides, SCAD has launched a platform allowing private sector companies to register for membership in the D4G Alliance. This alliance seeks to bridge the gap between business and government data, fostering innovation, informed decision-making, and sustainable growth. By facilitating data collaboration, both private companies and government entities can gain valuable insights, driving forward strategic initiatives that enhance overall societal and economic development.
During the roundtable, private sector representatives convened to share their perspectives on the D4G initiative and explore potential collaborations. Participants acknowledged the immense value of business-to-government (B2G) data sharing and expressed their eagerness to contribute to Abu Dhabi's data-driven future.
In this context, His Excellency Abdulla Gharib Alqemzi, Director-General of SCAD, emphasised the importance of the alliance in expanding the benefits of data collaboration for both the private sector and the government.
His Excellency said: “The D4G initiative represents a significant step forward in Abu Dhabi's journey towards becoming a global leader in data-driven innovation. By supporting collaboration between the government and private sectors, the initiative seeks to unlock new insights and opportunities that will propel the emirate's development across various sectors. Through the D4G Alliance, SCAD aims to create a thriving ecosystem where data is harnessed for the greater good, ultimately enhancing the quality of life in Abu Dhabi.”
On the same topic, His Excellency Marwan Ahmad Lutfi, the Director General of Al Etihad Credit Bureau, said: "By forging this groundbreaking connection, we are embarking on a journey that will enhance data exchange across the government and private sectors. This collaborative initiative not only streamlines the collaboration but also paves the way for innovative solutions for the best interest of the people in the United Arab Emirates."
In the same context, Andrew Rzepa - Partner at Gallup, Inc., said: “Gallup’s experience of conducting global survey research has helped demonstrate the positive change data can have to a society. In isolation data has power. When government and private sector datasets are combined, the effects can be transformational, opening avenues for better policy decisions, enhanced services, and accelerated innovation.”
Shukri Eid, General Manager of IBM Gulf Levant & Pakistan, said: “In the age of generative artificial intelligence, data collaboration will be an important ingredient for success. It enhances model training, innovation, ethical use of AI, economic growth, and global competitiveness. It was a pleasure to be a part of a discussion aimed at advancing the social and economic aspirations of Abu Dhabi. The dialogue presented a unique opportunity to shape change while expanding on Data for Good. This initiative not only enhances innovation but also fosters a more inclusive and sustainable future for the region.”
On the sidelines of the roundtable discussion, José Francisco Fernández Serna, CEO of E-motion Foods, said: “In the agri-food space, there is a lot to be done with all the investment going into climate-smart solutions applied to the Food System, climate-controlled agriculture and food processing technologies. There will be new pools of data coming from different sources and dimensions and it is very important to start coordinating efforts with a platform like the Data for Good to act efficiently to achieve the common objectives for producers, policy makers, consumers and other stakeholders.”
In 2023, SCAD launched the Abu Dhabi Data for Good Initiative in collaboration with the Abu Dhabi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ADCCI), representing a strategic partnership that brings together national and international corporations, the government sector, academic institutions, research entities, and startups. The alliance is structured to foster a symbiotic environment where all stakeholders benefit from B2G data collaboration while advancing Abu Dhabi's economic and social aspirations.
